This year’s Base4NFDI User Conference (UC4B 2026) features not only one, but two keynotes of high relevance to our community.
Prof. Dr. Sabina Leonielli (Technical University of Munich) – Tuesday, 24 Nov. 5:45 PM
Prof. Dr. Sabina Leonelli will deliver the keynote “Data and AI for the Public Good: The Role of Intelligent Governance.” She will examine challenges in data management and reuse—including funding constraints, geopolitical tensions, bias, AI scraping, and data ownership and sovereignty—and propose governance models and practices for a healthier global data ecosystem. She will also highlight the importance of equitable Open Research and the Munich Manifesto as a key advocacy tool. The Munich Manifesto is a framework for reliable, responsible, and equitable open research, developed through international consultation and launched in 2026.
Prof. Dr. Sabina Leonelli is an internationally renowned philosopher of science and scholar in science and technology studies. Since September 2024, she has been Professor of Philosophy and History of Science and Technology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Her research focuses in particular on the impact of digitalisation, data and artificial intelligence on science and society.
Dr. Christian Grimm (National Research and Education Network) – Wednesday, 25 Nov. 9:20 AM
Dr. Christian Grimm’s keynote will be on “Operating the NFDI – Thoughts of an Interested Observer”, as he is, among his core responsibilities in the DFN Association) a member of the Base4NFDI Technical Expert Committee.
Dr. Christian Grimm is an engineer and science manager. Since 2011, he has been the CEO of the Association for the Promotion of a German Research Network (DFN-Verein) and has been involved for many years in the establishment and further development of national and European research network infrastructures. He has also played a significant role in the European research network organisation GÉANT.
While these two keynotes are certainly going to be highlights of the UC4B, our programme also offers the opportunity to get to know the Basic Services and respective use cases. Furthermore, conference workshops and a poster session invite the participants to exchange experiences, strengthen connections and grow their networks.
If you haven’t registered for the UC4B 2026 yet, you can still do so until 9 November via this link.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Berlin!
