Welcome to the November issue of the Base4NFDI newsletter! Every two months we will share the latest updates about upcoming Base-relevant events and presentations, insights into the basic service development, and notify you about interesting resources to keep you informed and inspired.

Events and presentations

  • Base4NFDI 1st User Conference, November 20-21, 2024, Berlin. We also have a new website with details on the keynote and the programme.
  • Services by Base4NFDI Roadshow on Dec 4th, 2024, 2 pm, online. Pitching all currently funded Basic Services at the end of the year 2024.

Brief updates from the basic services

  • PID4NFDI
    • The integration phase proposal has been accepted. The new phase is set to begin in January.
    • Don’t miss our online PID Stakeholder workshop on Nov 11, 2024, 9-12.30 am, open to all NFDI representatives and beyond. Register here
    • The PID Coordination Hub is frequently updated. A PID provider overview and information on metadata assessment has recently been added.

  • KGI4NFDI
  • DMP4NFDI
    • A successful DMP use cases workshop was held on Sep 30. The next workshop will be on *Nov 15, 10-13h*, open to everyone - discuss and work on the DMP template framework with us! Join via Zoom
    • The team is looking for use case partners/incubator projects for the Integration phase regarding the following topics: joint DMP template creation in RDMO, service integration in RDMO, or joint setup of the RDMO client. If interested, please join the monthly Jour Fixe with project partners - open to everyone interested in collaboration with DMP4NFDI. Next JF on Nov 12, 11-12h. Join via Zoom.
    • Collaboration meetings with PID4NFDI and TS4NFDI and other basic service teams are planned for the upcoming year.

  • Jupyter4NFDI
    • Since Oct 1st, the Jupyter4NFDI project team is now complete with two more staff members at the University of Stuttgart and GESIS. 
    • Further computing and storage resources by MPCDF have been integrated into the staging environment and will be available in production, soon. 
    • The team is preparing a survey for November to better understand user requirements that will help guide the service development and feature prioritisation.
    • Two new core features were added to the central Jupyter4NFDI webservice:
      • Repo2Docker - A MyBinder-like feature has been integrated within Jupyter4NFDI so users can share Binder-based reproducible environments. Currently in beta, this feature is expected to expand with additional options soon.
      • Share Button - When setting up a Repo2Docker or CustomDockerImage configuration on the platform, you can now use the share button, making it easier for others to replicate your environment.

  • nfdi.software
    • The service officially started in November 2024. Base4NFDI is excited to have the team on board and wish them great success. The kick-off is scheduled for January as soon as all staff is hired.

  • RDMTraining4NFDI
    • RDMTraining4NFDI has been accepted for funding of the initialisation phase. We’re currently arranging logistics for their official starting date.

Publications and related materials

  • EOSC Guidance Paper. This paper deals with how our basic services will be embedded in the EOSC landscape.
